Use gmail with unlimited email adresses

There is a very interesting feauture of gmail, that I’ve just read here, where you can use your main account with many email adresses, using the + sign.
How do you do that? Well if your adress is xxx@gmail.com then xxx+@gmail.com and xxx+whateverYouWant@gmail.com still goes to your inbox ![]()

Wouldn’t that make it easier for spammers to … well spam?!
